Carburetor orientation

Does the carburetor on the goose come oriented backwards from the factory? I just noticed that the carburetor on my goose is turned backwards with the primaries to the rear of the car. I guess that it was done to clear the jackshaft. I was wondering if the previous owner had to do this to clear the added demon's vacuum secondary diaphram housing or if this the way they came.
