They have either the binary or trinary switches.

The binary switch wires in series with the compressor relay pilot circuit and won't let the compressor engage unless there is enough pressure in the system to operate and will also disengage the compressor if the high side system pressure gets too high.

The trinary switch does everything the binary switch does and will also control your condenser fan too. A second pair of wires gets wired in series with the condenser fan relay and only engages the condenser fan when high side system pressure determines it needs to run.

Not such a bad idea when you consider how much power the A/C system uses.
