Yes, depending on what clutch is in there- after 30 yrs it could be anything. I drove several '71s with no effort reduction units & hernia-generating 3-finger clutches. Not much fun in heavy traffic. The 'kit' has been out of production since at least '75. It was actually an over-center device similar to that used in compound bows for hunting & target shooting. The 1st 40% effort is actually higher, then drops dramatically. Ford didn't add it to reduce clutch effort- the thing was added to make it easy for former Lincoln drivers to hold the clutch in with the tranny in gear at stoplights... Simplest, cheapest way is to add a diaphragm clutch in place of the stock 3-finger.
