I wouldn't bother to discard the spring, since the 'mouse-trap' spring up on the clutch shaft (under the dash) normally breaks quickly, leaving you with no other retraction spring. Whoever sold you the aftermarket long-throw unit should also have rebuild kits available. You will likely NOT be able to buy them elsewhere since the actual source of the long-throw slaves is a cloely-guarded secret by all the Pantera parts vendors, but should not be expensive in any case.
