Reply to "clutch replacement"

It takes me about 2 hrs, with a second person to help, to remove a ZF & bellhousing just so work on the clutch can be started. The ZF & bellhousing weighs about 155 lbs and is usually slippery on the bottom; its about all 2 strong guys can do to hoist that thing 3 ft up & out of a Pantera. A single worker will use an engine crane. Returning the ZF to its place also takes about 2 hrs. All Centerforce clutches are 10-1/2" units meant for 5.0l Mustangs. These clutches are well capable of holding 450 horses, but they also use the next size larger bolts than stock, and the bolt pattern is smaller. So you are required to redrill & tap a new bolt pattern into your stock flywheel, or replace the stock flywheel with one specific for that clutch. The balence will be the same as stock, but adjusting the starter throw, getting the pilot bushing out of the end of the crank, replacing the thrrow-out onto the stock cast iron carrier, all will take time- at $60-70/hr. At chapter tech sessions, it takes all afternoon by 2-3 guys who've done this before & have all the parts laid out As for the different t.os, I'd call Marino & ask- if theres two different carriers ( I don't know), there's no way to tell before-hand as its buried in the center of the assembly..
