Clutch replacement-ZF removal

I searched all the threads and still have a few questions.

1. Where/how do you disconnect the shifter linkage from the ZF? It looks like if I punch out the pin every thing will line up correctly later. My shifting is perfect now.

2. What are the "tabs"? It looks to me like they are the mounts at the rear of the ZF where the large bolt passes through. I guess if you bend them you can pull the ZF back with minimal engine tilt. Can you unbolt the bracket that connects to the mount at the ZF and NOT bend the tabs?

#6958 is a 74.
