Well that makes me feel a little better! I put in a new clutch a few thousand miles ago and it has shuddered a little from day one. It gets better as time goes by. It only happens when I am required to do a slow engagement from a stop (or in bumper to bumper traffic). It will not shudder if I am reasonably aggressive from a standing start. I have to make a slightly uphill, tight, 90 degree turn to get into my garage. It will normally shudder there too.
Glad to know this is somewhat normal. Thanks for the explaination, Dave.
