Clutch Slave

I have some seepage at the clutch slave which requires adding about 2 oz of fliud for each tank of gas burned.
I was told by the owner that I could simply take it off, hone or clean the cylinder, and get a new seal for it locally by taking the size number off the old seal.
Does this sound do-able or is it mearly a short term fix.
Will I disrupt the clutch adjustment when removing it? If so, could I just measure the exact amount of adjustment and then return it there and double check with a .40 feeler gauge at the disc?
I am comfortable working on my own cars but since this is a first with hyro clutch I don't want to blow it.
