I went to my local hardware store and bought a few extension springs and then starting with the lightest I tried different ones until I found one that reliably returned the arm to the stop and yes it is much lighter than the stock spring and makes a noticeable difference in the pedal effort.

Ok, went to the local commercial hardware store, bought a new spring. It works fine and appreciably reduced the clutch pedal effort, Thanks!!
