Coil over shock spacers

In tearing down the rear suspension I found that the coil over shock on the right hand side did not have the Aluminum spacer and the left hand side had the Aluminum spacer. Is there a possible reason for this? The car was used for track racing in the past could this be the reason?
My first posting did not make sense sorry.
