All stock Panteras require a coil which is used with an external resistor. In effect the coil is a 7 volt coil and when used with the resistor, drops the voltage at the coil to 7 volts. When you try to start the car the resistor is bypassed but as the starter motor takes a heavy load on the battery, the effect is a car that starts easier. The resistor can be in the form of a resistive wire which is in the wiring loom (later Pantera's) or an external resistor (early Pantera's).
