The charcoal canister filters (?) fuel vapors and I believe it ran them into the air cleaner (stock).

I'd suggest installing an anti-roll over
valve (Hall and other vendors ?) instead.
Chance of roll over is small, but for $35
this valve shuts off fuel flow thru the vapor
line is cheap insurance.
