Generally speaking it is better to have a bit too little rather than a bit too much lube in a transaxle. So when you put the gear lube in allow the unit to sit a good long while until it stops draining out the side hole.
Because gear lube is so viscous, it's possible to overfill the box if you pump it full then quickly put the side plug in and the stuff is pouring out. When the lube heats up it takes up more volume and predisposes to blowing seals, etc.
