Distributor clearance

I am trying to install a new MSD 8577 distributor (w/ small cap) into my 1972 Pantera. I am about an inch too tall to fit under the original engine grill (upper back panel vent) the later type with the air cleaner bump. Is this the correct distributor part number? Any ideas how to make this fit? THANKS!
