Distributor Gear Woes

I recently installed a new cast iron gear on my distributor with disasterous results. the bottom wear surface has "galled" and the mating surface on the block is not so good either probably due to the misinstalled height of the the gear. Has anyone heard of a "fix" for this as far as the block?
