Does Lay-down Rad require fan bracket removal?

I wanted to upgrade my radiator as part of my project and decided to purchase the Ron Davis/ Spal package sold by Pantera Performance. Included are side mount extensions that move the radiator forward about 4", so I'm not sure if this qualifies as a full lay-down. Also, the side deflectors must be modified(trimmed) to fit properly.

The instructions say "Removing original fan mounting brackets will improve air flow through the radiator core". While that makes sense, is that really necessary? I'm not thrilled about cutting the stock fan motor brackets off of my car if I can get away without doing so. I would appreciate any advice on this subject.
