Donut under the thermostat

Well, I finally got the engine out of #6958. What a job with the cooling tubes/heater hoses and the york compressor and RUSTED BOLTS. I broke 3 header bolts and 1 thermostat housing bolt. The header bolts are ok because I have new Edelbrock heads but I have to easy out the thermostate bolt. I'm wondering about the brass looking donut under the thermostate with the word "TOP" in it. Should I take this out befor I send the block to the shop? If so does it pry out? or does it just stay there? Wont the tank disolve it if left in?

Thanks all
