Door Handle Spring?

I am trying unsuccessfully to replace my exterior door handle springs. The original spring does not appear broken as I originally thought. It is exactly the same as the replacement.

The problem is where to attach the spring end to put the handle back under tension.

Anyone have their assembled handle buckets out that could take some pics? All advice is appreciated.
