Door jam lever

The cable of the rear deck-lid should be replaced. But I'm kind of puzzled, as I have no idea how to reach the door jam side of the cable (I own a pushbutton).

I'm afraid the only way to get to that side of the cable is to remove the fuel tank...

Someone who did this job before, and could give me tips (a forum search was not quite helpful)???
