Door latch in the closed position with the door open, how to set the latch back to the open position?

I WAST TRYING TO REPAIR THE PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ON MY 74 PANTERA AND I PUSHED THE LATCH WHICH CATCHES THE POST ON THE FRAME DOWN TOWARD THE FLOOR AND I CANNOT GET IT BACK UP SO THE DOOR WILL CLOSE

ANY SUGGESTIONS?
