Reply to "EDIS vs Coil near plug ignition"

George,

In order to use an EDIS-8 module with 8 individual coils, all you do is "tee" the EDIS-8 module's coil outputs, so they connect to two coils, rather than the intended one side of a four terminal coil pack (if that makes any sense at all!). Specifically, from the EDIS-8 module, connect the first output to the coils on cylinders 1 & 6; the second output to the coils on cylinders 3 & 5, the third to 4 & 7 and the fourth to 2 and 8. You have to run switched power to each coil as well. It's all pretty simple and really just an exercise in harness construction. All of the pigtail connectors are available and I bought mine from Rockauto.com.

I also incorporated an MSD DIS-4 CD unit into my installation, which is designed to be used with a V8 waste spark set-up. I see those on eBay quite frequently for next to nothing.

An EDIS ignition module won't work with any of the GM LS smart coils.

If you have any more questions I'll do my best to answer them for you but because I did this installation about eight years ago, it isn't exactly fresh in my mind!
