Reply to "efi fuel return line plumbing"

I will soon be reinstalling the gas tank (excellent condition) back into my Pantera and I recently replaced my old 1972 float assembly with a later combination fuel pickup/ level sender float assembly. Before I install the tank, should I leave the fuel sock off of the later fuel pickup/float assembly and use an external fuel filter, especially if I want to possibly increase the horsepower of my engine at a later date? If I would choose to retrofit my car with EFI at a later date, can I use the original (abandoned) pickup tube connection for the EFI return line or is it too small?
