Reply to "ELECTRIC WATER PUMP"

Some time ago, I toyed with the idea of an electric water pump. I was encouraged by feedback from GT40 owners, who had fitted such items and were pleased with the result. Before moving forward, I called both Meziere's and Stewart Component's tech support people. Both companies said "don't do it"! This surprised me as both companies make such pumps. Their reasoning was that their electric water pumps don't flow enough coolant and aren't sufficiently reliable for a street application. As an alternative, both companies recommended fitting an auxilliary electric water pump as close to the outlet of the radiator as possible, and keeping the OE belt driven mechanical water pump. This would help to increase flow at idle and help reduce cavitation at higher RPM's. It can also be left running for a set period of time, after the engine's been shut off, in order to eliminate hot spots. I eventually chose the Stewart in-line electric booster pump because it offers "zero" restriction to coolant flow when it's turned off.
