JT, the question came up a few years ago, I wa reporting 280 degrees and Bosswrench said that was WAY too high. We discussed that I was taking the reading from the sensor in the block above the fuel pump. When I put in a 10 quart oil pan I also put a sender in the oil pan. I can switch back and forth between the 2.

I then found that I was getting temps in the block of 280 degrees and in the pan of 230. Boss said this was right in line with a study he had published in POCA
