I had the same problem symptoms. It ended up being the pink ignition wire which had shorted and fried from the ignition switch junction back. The wire is way small to be carrying the load, looked like about 16 gauge. I replaced it from the junction to coil with a thicker wire with an in line fuse. I've seen cars that have just bridged power from the starter solenoid to the coil.
