Mine (in the Pantera) was also getting difficult to turn. I removed it from the console and squirted some LPS-1 inside, and it rotates like new.

It sounds like the control's temperature differential (temp "spread" between switch "on" and switch "off") is greater than that of the old capillary tube switch. This temp differential may or may not be field adjustable. Or, the sensor for the electronic switch is not located in the same place as the old capillary tube.
