emergency brake lever problem

I just had the remote emergency brake kit installed on my 72, and it looks great....unfortnately the teeth on the ratchet mechanism of the brake lever won't grab and hold from the driver's seat, but will grab and hold when pulled up from the passenger side. Therefore it appears the teeth are worn on the driver's side. Any advice on how to fix or find a substitute lever that will work? Thanks.
