I just used PPG's DP90 black epoxy paint in the engine bay. It has a satin finish when dried and is tough and will protect the metal well.
I didn't polish my case but painted it with a base-clear silver for ease of cleaning. I don't want to spend more time polishing the case than driving the car. Good Luck on your decision.
