engine number question

My euro GTS 3840 was originally equipped with engine number 03287.

The engine fitted to the car since I bought it is 00713

When the change was made and why I have no idea, but does this early engine come from an early car? or did ford sell reconditioned engines with these kind of numbers?

Can any specialist help with an answer please.
