Hi Peter,
I too have just imported a Pantera from the States, mine arrived at Thamesport on Oct 1st so I may be able to give you some pointers.
I notice you said you will go and pick you car when it arrives, I considered this but decided to go down the route of having the car delivered to my house on a transporter this allowed me to check the car over prepare it for M.O.T as you will not be able to drive without number plates, also be aware that all DVLA local offices are now closed so you will have to apply online and the inevitable errors will be made, you can naturally pay your shipper to do this for you at a cost, but I wanted to carry out this process myself.
