engine verification

I have a 1987 GT5S with a 1972 Cleveland block casting code D2AE-CA above starter. There is a "stamping" code WO 18 at the top rear of the block on the driver's side near the bell housing flange.Please advise whether this is or can be the original engine . It had 'Australian" heads on it.The original owner blew the engine with only 16000 miles on the car.I would appreciate any help with this as information appears limited.
