Reply to "Flush mount Marine/Aircraft/Motorcycle fuel cap"

The first of those type fuel doors were from surplus or home-built aircraft (WWW.aircraft-spruce.com) in the L.A. area, but a few were ex-motorcycle gas tank caps. As for options, I left the stock L outside filler door on the left and duplicated the entire thing as a mirror image on the right side. The new right side door covers the radaitor cap attached to a larger aluminum surge tank. Just in case I didn't like its looks, I didn't cut the stock die-cast gill but made a silicone rubber mold of it, then cast a new gill out of fiberglas & resin, and cut that up. But since it's been on there since 2002, I think its there to stay....
Now thinking about routing the oil dipstick under that door too, so I can check all engine needs without opening the decklid. I moved the stock dipstick to the rear of a 10-qt Aviaid oil pan sump, so it's pretty much right there anyway, but the 3-1/2" door is kind of cramped for space. Needs more thought this winter.
