Reply to "Fontana Blocks"

Joe Fontana has been around forever. He says that he has more of his aluminum blocks in Mustangs & Panteras than he does in dirt-trackers, these days. There's even one running just fine in Norway, in a GT-5. The Fontana is a combination of Cleveland (main bearing sizes) and Windsor (oiling system & cams). It uses a custom front cover, though; you can't use a 351-W front cover. All the other accessories are Windsor. Either Windsor or Cleveland heads fit but a 351-C intake won't unless you select the low-deck block. It saves about 60 lbs and costs about $4000 including the 4-bolt main caps; the front cover costs another $150, I think. It can be bored & stroked to 440 cubic inches and can cope with over 800 horses on alcohol without blowing up.
