Matt, although I do agree it is nice to see an up front price displayed, I don't believe it is absolutely necessary or that such a detail need have a cast in stone rule. As George says it, I agree it will lead to people not advertising on the board. I also don't believe people advertise here just because it is for free, it is because they have something to offer back to community members. Often members are true to the spirit of Pantera ownership and are prepared to sell parts herein to fellow members at a lower price than they might easily obtain on Ebay for instance (even after fees). That is commendable and can only be good for all of us.
I have purchased parts from this forum, both with and without posted prices. If I need the part, as a buyer I have no problem contacting the seller for his price or to make an offer. The flip side to not posting prices from the seller’s perspective is that they will likely receive numerous e-mail contacts requesting the price and unfortunately only a small proportion of those that ask for the price or show interest usually have any intention of making a purchase.
I would also like to say we should be mindful not to 'diss' the so called "Antiquated" list; these are our fellow brethren and the list serves as much a function as this forum. Not everyone has access to the internet (especially at work) and many still feel more comfortable in an e-mail forum. George has done and immense amount of work behind the scenes to rebuild bridges between the two communities and that effort is commendable. Many (like I) that use this forum, subscribe to the e-mail list as well, because they do have different memberships for the aforementioned reasons. However, that said I do note a wind of change within the last 6 months or so where, there is more crossover between the two forums and where posts are being duplicated in both. Again I think that this is at least in part to George's efforts and can only be a positive step as it helps strengthen and broaden the Pantera community.
