The Fremont display was way larger, more interactive with the public, and more interactive amongst the owners than the frypan display on the top of the Orleans parking structure. One of the major complaints I've heard about the Orleans is the crappy display situation.
The powers that be think that the owners will -
one - not want to drive all the way to Fremont
two - not want to have to clean the car after
that long drive
three - not want to be without a hospitality
suite or their hotel room nearby
I think those reasons are full of crap.
Panteras are driven out to Pahrump, out to Red Rock Canyon, up to Mt. Charleston, over to auto museums and on poker runs. Our POCA Prez has adopted the phrase 'Drive It!!' which I started to use in honor of the guy that said it, the late, great Tony Harvey.
And just how dirty can a car get driving a lousy ten miles or so on a city street. The last year at the Plaza, I spent a good two hours cleaning 2511 to remove the track event dirt and grime I had gathered at LVMS.
And if I need to hang out somewhere other than beside my car, which is way cool and I have two folding chairs that fit in the rear tub just fine, I just 'think' I might be able to find a spot somewhere
on Fremont.This year there was a lot of talk about this, most in favor of a return to Fremont based on what I heard, and I hope CHIPIE will take the leap and make it happen for 2008.
Your BIG support before and then during such a happening will help make it a reality, regardless of where the event hotel is located.
