Fuel Sending Question

Good Afternoon,

I'm trying to get details finished so I can eventually fire up the new engine. I purchased a new fuel sending unit from Hall and noticed it has the fuel pickup line integrated. My old system just had the sending unit and a separate fitting to feed to the fuel pump. I included before and after pics.

I assume the new sending unit fitting should be connected to the fuel pump with an inline filter. Does the old fitting get clamped off or should it be vented? I'm planning to use the original charcoal filter to vent the fuel tank, where it works or not is another story.
