garage lift for everyman

Because of the way homes are constructed in California my garage has a heavy beam going across it, which lowers the 8 ft ceiling about 16" or so.

As a consequence, I am unable to fit a lift that can raise the car high enough to stand under or park a car below.

After years of wondering what to do, I sprung for a BendPak "low rise" LP-60P, which lifts 26", has a broad base, and lies only 4" high when collapsed. So I can park a car over it when it is not in use. Also, there are no heavy steel beams to hit my shins against.

It was $2000 delivered to my home. I suspect it's going to be a great addition-- now I can sit on a stool and work on the brakes, etc without constantly hitting my head on the fender lip. Undercar work can be done on a rollabout. It can also be locked at 2 lower positions. The jack stand you see under the rear is for extra safety.
