Reply to "Gas"

In researching for an article in the POCA news a few months ago, I noted that there are fifty-five (55) different 'race gasolines' now marketed. Among other things, some have significant amounts of tetraethyllead in them, subjecting the supplier AND user to a $10K fine for any public road use. All these also have slight changes in viscosity & density which means that you will have jetting problems if your engine is tuned for one type and you then change to a second one. I would suggest you mechanically fix your engine rather than getting "hooked" on the race-gas thing. A valve job followed by thicker composite head gaskets and some attention to the ignition timing should allow 91-octane to work just fine. I built & ran my current engine to 10-1/2:1 compression with aftermarket cam etc and it not only thrived on 89-91 octane, it passed CA smog testing (until that became unnecessary)
