Reply to "Ground strap & brake fluid"

The Pantera requires a ground strap from the transaxle or engine to a bare spot on the frame, but 6 ft is overkill IMHO. Most are a ft or less long. DOT-3 Ford brake fluid is used by many racers in all kinds of cars for both clutch & brakes, as it has an extraordinarily high boiling point plus is pretty cheap. The only thing to remember is, any DOT-3 fluid will absorb moisture a little faster than a DOT-4-rated fluid, so it absolutely needs changing yearly (the racers change it each event). DOT-5.1 is mineral oil & has the highest boiling point of any conventional fliud but costs quite a bit more. DOT 5 is silicone and is not recommended nor allowed by any racing organization known, due to multiple problems. Dow Chemical, the mfgr, also does NOT recommend it as a brake fluid. Its only advantage is its very lowf water-absorption in lightly-maintained or seldom-driven cars.
