I just replaced out the sender with one that was tested before going in yesterday, so I know it is OK. The sender already had a bit of white coating on the threads to seal it so I did not add any additional Teflon tape as I had read it could mess with the grounding.

I ran a new wire back in the gauge to the sender directly, so I know there is no issue along that route. I had read in the previous post where people recommended grounding the water temp gauge directly….so I was wondering if/how that is possible to try.
