I DO think the flares had a lot to do with it. People used to customize 57-67 Corvettes with flared wheel wells, etc. too. But as the values rose, most people realized it was an increasingly expensive mistake to personalize a desireable original car. Then they all got the custom stuff removed and returned to factory trim! Eventually, people will stop butchering up Panteras too (if and when the value of the original cars is more widely known and established for what they actually were). The factory wide body cars are a separate issue as they have a "pedigree".
