Thanks for the tip on Robot Racing, Julian, but their price tag is a bit much for me.
Jerry Sackett from PI Motorsports wrote me today, and advised as follows: "The wings we make are aftermarket (about 30% smaller) Fiberglass or carbon fiber. (will not fit GT5)."
However, I am in luck with Kirk Evans. He is currently working on a dimensionally correct reproduction of the factory GT5 wing, but made of hollow composite which will bring the weight down to around 7 or 8 Lbs. He will be finished this month or early next month. He wrote to me as follows:
"This master wing has been totally re-surfaced and is far closer (symmetrical) side to side than original. This wing will be much lighter and towers will be removable to prevent stress cracking, which is a big plus. The projected cost pre part will be 1200.00 to 1400.00 mainly because the high end laminating procedure I am using to make them lighter and demand is so low."
Kirk sent me some photos, and the wing looks pretty good. I think I have my solution!
