GT5S rear wheel spacing

i'm wondering... without spacers my OEM rear wheels seems so deep in the GT5S fenders. Was this the design ??? I have 5/4" spacers who do make it look perfect. ( wheels&tires align outside with fenders as in front )
is this normal ? do those spacers load the bearings not to much ?
