GTS Clock

I bought a NOS Veglia GTS clock from a vendor who said the clock was working - after all, it's NOS. It looks NOS but I can't make the clock work when I attach wires from the battery. The light goes on when I test that but the second hand never moves. I presume ground is one of the two bracket screws on the back, and positive is the slide on connector near the + sign on the back? What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
