They do go strait out the end. They original design did go out at an angle to exit the stock locations. I opted to point them out strait and finish the car off by filling in the outlet cutouts in the rear of the car.

They are a good distance away from the covers and I can remove and replace them without taking the pipes off. I had to do this when I added my stud girdle a few weeks ago. It wasn't that difficult. One bolt is a little tricky but it ain't too bad...

What did you do to protect the paint on the decklid? I see no heat shields?
