Julian you've surmised everything correctly. The chassis stiffener was developed for purple passion. That entire "purple" assembly as seen in the picture is intended to be fitted into the car. The rectangular sections with the holes in them must be fitted within the rockers, as you can imagine that requires some major hacking on the chassis.
