If you have the motor gear separated from the half moon gear, you should be able to lift open the headlight doors with ease.
something must be jammed or bent that is preventing it from opening.
Pull the front wheels, and the removable splash shields and have a look to see what the problem might be.
Also inspect the half moon gear to see if it is catching on something.
