headlight mechanism

My headlights are binding in their travel up and down causing the motor to overheat and wires at the limit switch to get hot. I have replaced the gear with a bronze one several years ago. I was wondering if there is any way to get the shafts out of the bar that connects the 2 lights. The shop manual shows the shafts with bushings but doesn'y say how to remove them.
