headlight switches have short lives?

I replaced my headlight switch a few years ago and it probably hasn't been turned on more than a couple dozen times.

Now it won't stay in the ON position-- it keeps snapping back to the parking lights or off position.

With it out of the car I can push the chrome bezel closer to the black body and it will stay on, but as soon as I let go a spring force from inside the switch pushes the bezel away and the switch turns off.

Any cure for this other than buying another (poorly made) switch?
