How can I make the clutch easier?

This is my first manual gear car in years, and I find the clutch very hard. My leg is not 100% good, and I'd like make driving less painful. I've taken off the spring at the pedal, no big effect. There's also a firmer spring on the clutcharm in the back, can I take that off? Why is it there, I thought the spring built into the clutch would be enough? Do I risk that the clutch will start slipping?
I've also considered gearing the clutcharm, extending it, which would lead to longer clutch pedal travel.
I've also seen a clutch effort reduction kit on the web, has anybody any experience with that, looks complicated...
